Enhanced 911 systems require daily and weekly maintenance activities in order to operate efficiently.  GIS data and Enhanced 911 are growing technologies that require staff expertise and software resources to perform system administration tasks.

Computer aided dispatch (CAD) digital mapping is a key component of Enhanced 911.  Digital maps are linked to the CAD system to allow the origin of 911 calls to be automatically mapped if the map has proper addressing associated with the road center line data.  The dispatcher can easily supply driving directions and critical information to first responders as they respond to an emergency.
